What Are EV Chargers?

As Electric Vehicles (EVs) become more prevalent, the infrastructure for keeping cars and vans topped up with energy has to roll out with them. If you own, or are thinking of owning an EV, then installing a charger in your house or garage means it can always be ready to go, and minimises the need to charge up when out and about!

An EV charger is just like any other electrical socket you might have in your home, but optimised for high-capacity electricity output. Using specialised tethered cables means that any current EV on the market can be fully charged within hours.

Take control of charging your vehicle, by installing a charger in your home or garage – and if your home is generating excess power from solar PV, fill your EV with clean energy for free! Monitor just how your energy is being used too - as standard, the chargepoints we offer have a built-in communication unit.

Approved installers of myEnergi Zappi EV charger

About Our Charging Points

We install myEnergi products, a UK-based company that provide a variety of self-consumption technologies. Their wall charger, the Zappi, uses a special eco-mode that uses surplus energy generated from your solar panel installation to charge your EV vehicle. This ensures that your vehicle battery is always topped up, and you'll be using your own generated energy, only drawing from the grid when absolutely necessary.

We are also licenced installers of Rolec electric vehicle chargers – holders of Europe’s largest stocks of EV charging equipment and accessories. For domestic applications, we specialise in the WallPod HomeCharge, which are low-cost units, offering Mode 3 fast charging, at either 3.6kW (16 amp) or 7.2kW (32 amp) output.

If you're unsure which charger would be best for your current or future vehicles, get in touch and we'll be happy to talk you through it.

Between 2013 and 2017, the number of electric vehicles on the road in the UK grew from 3,500 to 125,000!

Funding and Grants

It is possible to have 75% or £350 of the costs of installing an EV charger covered by the OLEV’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge scheme, if you are installing a Type 2 cable. There are only a few criteria to be eligible, such as:

  • The time between your charge point installation and the point at which you become the owner of the vehicle must not be greater than 4 months

  • You can apply for both owned vehicles and leases (even company cars if it's assigned for at least 6 months)

  • Your vehicle must be included on

Most domestic installations will be eligible for the grant, but if you have any concerns, get in touch and we'll be happy to clarify any points.

And it's not only domestic installations that can benefit from grants. There are also OLEV grants for businesses installing EV chargers across their sites. If you'd like to know more, just get in touch and we'll see how you could benefit.
